Friday Free Read: Isla Querida

They darted ahead of me: twin flashes of white against broad, dark palm fronds. They moved like deer and their laughter bubbled in their wake, tender, girlish, sweet. Had I truly wanted, I’d have overtaken them, silly creatures, without a scrap of trouble. If they were deer, I was the stag. But I let them lead, keeping just ahead of me.

I caught sight of Nina’s periwinkle hair, then the prim shape of Neri’s ankle and her delicate white sandals. Rosy fireflies and dusky night-time butterflies drifted through the warm air around them; the sultry notes of coconut, island blossoms, and the girls’ own bright, fresh scents guided me through lush swaths of jungle. I was a little tipsy and more than a little riled, and my pretty pale does knew it. When it came to my passions, my girls knew all.

Friday Free Read: Lead Me Not...

This week's Free Read takes place in the world of the Four Courts; the urban fantasy series begun with Goblin Fires. Lead Me Not features one of the lovely Winter Royals: Talaith, Fourth Daughter of Oberon. If you've read Goblin Fires, this short story takes place before the events of that book.

Talaith recognized the perfume the moment she stepped into one of the private alcoves backstage. Jasmine and hibiscus: a scent all at once nostalgic, bittersweet, and arousing. Even in the pounding atmosphere of Frostbite, the New York nightclub owned and operated by the Winter Court—her court, in other words—that subtle scent stole all of Talaith's attention.

"Kymera," she mused in a tone of playful exasperation. "What a pleasant surprise."

A Taste of Something Decadent: Foreplay and Fangs Interviews Decadent Kane

Two days ago, Foreplay and Fangs hosted a very good friend of mine and fellow Breathless Press author, Decadent Kane. She is the mind behind The Trouble with Elves, a 3-book series so far, with more to come along. She's also a whiz with clever marketing and promo materials, and you may have seen some of her art on my page before! For an hour, guests posted their questions for Decadent to answer.  Here is what she said!

Decadent Kane Thanks so much for having me here! I'm looking forward to all the strange that can come from this...

Foreplay and Fangs Supernatural Romance Tell us one thing, anything, about Steele Your Soul, your newest book, that you really, really want your readers to know.

Decadent Kane The main thing I can think of for Steele Your Soul- is Joren- he always has lust on the brain...some nights he kept me awake with his little fantasies. He was also the hardest character for me to write- Pirate speak wasn't so easy....

Foreplay and Fangs :Your stories go between the points of view of your lead male and female. Do you find one perspective easier than the other, in terms of gender?

Decadent Kane I think it depends on the story. In the first book, Ribbon of Darkness, it was easier to write Ribbon's point of view than it was to write Draven's. In Tempting Clover I actually had a ton of fun with both point of views- the characters talked to me easily as I wrote and they stayed pretty even as things go.Steele Your Soul- Joren by far was the talker...his Point of view was easier- not his dialogue- but definitely his thoughts, ideas, and the rest of him...ahem.

Foreplay and Fangs Where do you draw your "inspiration" for elves? Is there a specific lore or mythos you follow or have you created your own kind of elves?

Decadent Kane I'm not going to say I have created a purely unique my own kind of elves. But I don't draw from anything in particular either. I just took general knowledge about elves, pointed ears, Drows are evil or darker version who live underground, and manipulated it to fit my ideas. Elves become drows through a disease called the feral. It lives in every elf. Elves reach full maturity when their ears have grown into a point. The feral can be reversed or held at bay- but only through very special means and it is different for every elf. I didn't want to take from a certain myth or fantasy of another- though in fairness no idea is completely original.

Tempting Clover: The Trouble With Elves, Book 2Foreplay and Fangs  You had a short work-in-progress called Demon Song. Any plans to expand this into a full story? What can you tell us about it?

Decadent Kane Ah- Demon Song... that is completely different than my elves. Like the title suggest it has more to do with demons. I have considered breaching out into the world of demons. This particular story will be submitted to my editor as a 'flirt' a little taste of how I write and what I write. If I do follow this idea into Demon's much like my elves, I will take general ideas of the creatures and make it fit my own imagination and writing style. I already have one published demon story called Butterfly in the Bloody Valentine anthology by Breathless Press

Guest Do you have a favorite out of your characters? ?

Decadent Kane A favorite... *whispers* don't tell anyone- but Joren is my favorite...He's such a cad and come on he looks like Killian Jones....*swoons*

Guest How often do your characters wake you up just so they can talk to you??

Decadent Kane Oh goodness! Way more than I'd like sometimes. The males are the worst. Strangely enough my female characters don't keep me awake or wake me. In total it's happened about 6 times.

Guest: Will we get to see Pirate Captain again? *please please please?

Decadent Kane You know- I haven't decided yet. Several people have commented about wanting more of him. And When i write the Drow King's story- he might find his way involved somehow...but I don't have anything planned right this second.

Time for another Thursday Taste!

It's time for a taste of something sweet, my lovelies...
How about a sneak peak into the love affair of Finn, the Half-Sidhe Knight of Springtime, and his two lady loves, the Princesses of the Elves.

You may recognize Finn from last week's taste. In Goblin Fires, Finn plays a supporting role to his goblin half-sister, Reagan of the Autumn Court. Finn will have his own adventure soon enough, and what better way to start out a sexy elvyn romp than with... a threesome?

**Important Note**

(from earlier in the chapter)
Nine and Neri hadn't been born faerie princesses; they hadn't even been born twins, or sisters at all.  They were changelings, human children stolen from their world and transformed by the fae, becoming fae themselves

In other words:
THIS IS NOT AN INCEST STORY

And now,
On to the sweet part!

NaNoWriMo Heats Up

NaNoWriMo Day 12:
Fae Love and Desperation

 http://artofthemix.blob.core.windows.net/uploadimages/124897_romance.jpg

Talaith was surprised to see me at her door. I hadn't called ahead. I'd barely known I was going to be there myself. When she appeared in the doorway, though, one eyebrow cocked, I didn't offer any kind of explanation. I just threw myself at her.
It was a hard, desperate kiss I gave her, wrapping my arms around her luscious frame. I pushed her backwards into the entryway of her apartment and kicked the door shut behind me. She squeaked. She actually squeaked.
"Milady Knight!" she huffed when I let her up for air. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"This?" I growled, and kissed her again. "This isn't pleasure, Majesty. What I'm about to do to you, that will be a pleasure."

Today's NaNo Rumblings

Another excerpt from this year's NaNo Novel, Goblin Fires.

Finn and I were an oddity of sorts, at least when it came to being Knights.  There weren't actually that many of us—the Morrigan was a warrior goddess, after all, not a patron saint of hearth or home or fertility—and those of us there were did not often coincide closely in age. Finn and I might have been the only two to share our early childhoods, being siblings raised together for the first five years of his life until I was taken into the Autumn Court. We'd always shared a unique closeness, even after both taking up our roles to our respective houses. Finn was like me: he was of empathic demeanor, affected by and reflecting the nature of his company and, being a servant in the House of Spring, he'd come into a generally pleasant, playful and bright sort of character. Being an elf, he was prone to a strong sense of self-confidence; being Finn, that self-confidence could edge into a cocksure impertinence as often as not. Luckily for him, he was good at backing it up. He was also bloody gorgeous, as I've said, all lithe muscle and agile grace, and to top it off the beautiful, blazing smile of a man of chivalry and devotion. And it was all genuine, unadulterated Finn. A natural Knight, through and through and through.
It was downright disgusting. But only because he did it so very well.

Goblin Fires: Chapter One (WIP)

Want a taste of what I'm writing for this year's National Novel Writing Month?  Here is the opening scene of Goblin Fires, an erotic romance full of faeries, elves and goblins:

 ***
The warm aroma of blended spices—nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and just a hint of black pepper—curled up in tendrils of steam from the simple blue mug on the table before me.  I closed my palms around it, relishing the effusive heat like a nice hot bath, and inhaled the scent of Talaith's favorite chai tea with a soft sound of approval.

"Careful, sweetie," Tala purred in my ear.  She had a very eloquent, very refined accent, and she leaned over my shoulder to sprinkle a pinch of cocoa powder into my cup.  "Don't want to burn your tongue now, do you?  I think I should be very disappointed…"

"Flirt," I accused her with a smile.  I lifted the cup to my lips and blew gently over the tea, then shut my eyes and took a long, leisurely drink.  I never mind Tala's habit of teasing.  It's a welcome, cozy bit of humor, pleasing even in its childishness.  She always makes me tea after one of our delicious liaisons.  Our familiar ritual, her means of keeping me a little while longer in a gesture of intimate yet innocent domesticity.  She was ever the gracious host.
